Chelsea have submitted a £30m bid for Lazio defender Mario Gila, formerly of Real Madrid, but it was rejected. Gila, 24, impressed last season with over 40 appearances as Lazio finished seventh in Serie A. Lazio also turned down a £35m bid from Bournemouth and reportedly want around £50m for the Spanish centre-back.

During the summer transfer window of 2025, Chelsea made headlines by launching a £30 million bid for Lazio centre-back Mario Gila, formerly of Real Madrid. The 24-year-old Spanish defender, who played two senior games for Los Blancos after developing through their reserves, has become a key player at Lazio since his £5 million move in 2022. Over the 2024–25 season, Gila made more than 40 appearances, helping Lazio finish seventh in Serie A and reach the Europa League quarter-finals.

Chelsea’s offer, however, was swiftly rejected, as Lazio are reportedly holding out for a fee closer to £50 million. Bournemouth also had a £35 million bid turned down, with interest in Gila coming from Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain as well. Despite not yet making his debut for Spain, Gila was recently included in the national squad for their Nations League clash against the Netherlands.

Chelsea, under Enzo Maresca, are seeking to strengthen their defence after securing a fourth-place Premier League finish and winning the UEFA Conference League. They have already signed striker Liam Delap, as well as Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr. Meanwhile, Chelsea are open to selling players like Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku to make room for further arrivals.
