Liverpool transfer chief Richard Hughes is reportedly in talks with Saudi club Al-Ahli. Since joining in 2024, Hughes has overseen big signings including Alexander Isak (£125m), Florian Wirtz (£116m), and Hugo Ekitike (£79m). Despite Liverpool’s recent dip in form, the club is unlikely to let him leave before summer 2026.

When the reports emerged that Liverpool’s transfer chief Richard Hughes was in talks with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, it sent shockwaves around Anfield. According to journalist Ahmed Al-Ajlan, Hughes has already held discussions with the Saudi club, although any potential move would likely take place in the summer.

Since his appointment in 2024, Hughes has overseen several high-profile signings, including Alexander Isak for £125 million, Florian Wirtz for £116 million, and Hugo Ekitike for £79 million. Other additions under his leadership include Milos Kerkez (£40 million), Jeremie Frimpong (£29.5 million), Giorgi Mamardashvili (£29 million), Giovanni Leoni (£26 million), and a few lower-cost deals. Despite Liverpool’s recent dip in form, which saw them win only once in seven matches before beating Aston Villa, many believe it would be unwise to let Hughes depart so early in his tenure.

His recruitment strategy was designed for long-term stability, and losing him now could disrupt that vision. Al-Ahli, however, remain keen, with Chelsea’s Paul Winstanley also on their radar. Meanwhile, Arne Slot will look to rebuild momentum as Liverpool face tough fixtures ahead against Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Nottingham Forest.
