Following an injury free training camp in Florida, members of the squad discovered that some of their equipment had gone missing when they reached their base at Swope Soccer Village. Local police launched an investigation into the theft, and the Football Association later confirmed that most of the missing training gear had been recovered.
Reports also stated that 2 people were taken into custody in connection with the incident. Despite the disruption, England’s preparations continued without major problems. Backup goalkeeper Dean Henderson revealed that his boots and gloves were recovered, while defender Dan Burn said the squad had not made a big issue of the situation and remained fully focused on training. Burn added that the matter was being handled by the authorities and had not affected the team’s routine. The team’s stay in Kansas City was further complicated by severe weather.
Just hours after England arrived, the area was placed under a tornado warning, prompting emergency alerts that advised residents, including the England camp, to seek shelter. Weather had already caused issues during England’s pre tournament camp in Florida, where their final warm up match against Costa Rica was delayed by 1 hour due to a thunderstorm. England will begin their Group L campaign against Croatia in Arlington on Wednesday.
