Cucurella leaves Chelsea after 163 appearances and arrives as Real Madrid continue their squad rebuild following a trophyless 2025-26 season. In the latest move of Real Madrid’s summer rebuild, the Spanish giants completed the signing of Marc Cucurella from Chelsea on a six year contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2032. While Real Madrid did not officially reveal the transfer fee, reports suggest the deal is worth £47.5 million with an additional £4.3 million in bonuses, taking the total value to around £51.8 million.
The 27 year old Spanish left back arrives after spending 4 years at Chelsea, who had signed him from Brighton for £63 million. During his time at Stamford Bridge, Cucurella made 163 appearances and helped the club win the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Several clubs were interested in securing his services, including Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Manchester City. However, Cucurella reportedly preferred a move to Real Madrid.
The transfer became the first signing since Jose Mourinho returned to manage the club following a disappointing trophyless 2025-26 season. Real Madrid have been active in the transfer market, with Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries and Bernardo Silva also joining the squad. Meanwhile, Cucurella is currently representing Spain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the team is preparing to begin its Group H campaign against Cape Verde.
