Jorge Jesus said his main reason for joining Al-Nassr was to help Cristiano Ronaldo win major trophies in Saudi Arabia. Ronaldo, 41, has scored 100 league goals for the club but has only lifted the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup.

Al Nassr leads the Saudi Pro League by 2 points ahead of their decisive match against Damac FC.

For the first time since joining Al-Nassr, Jorge Jesus has openly revealed that his main reason for accepting the coaching role was to help Cristiano Ronaldo finally win major trophies in Saudi Arabia. The veteran Portuguese coach said he accepted the challenge after discussions with club CEO José Semedo and Ronaldo himself, making it clear that bringing silverware to the club was his top target.

Despite Ronaldo’s remarkable form since arriving in 2022 after leaving Manchester United, major success has remained out of reach. The striker has already crossed 100 league goals for Al Nassr, but the club’s only trophy so far has been the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup. They have also suffered several painful final defeats during this period.

Jesus described the Al Nassr job as the toughest challenge of his coaching career because he previously built the powerful squad at rivals Al-Hilal. Although Al Nassr recently lost 1-0 against Gamba Osaka in the AFC Champions League Two final, they still lead the Saudi Pro League table by 2 points ahead of the final match against Damac FC. A victory would secure their first league title since 2019.
