Pro Kabaddi 2016 | Anup Kumar's brilliance help U Mumba win a thriller against Dabang Delhi
U Mumba led by the omnipresent Anup Kumar beat Dabang Delhi 27-25 in the Pro Kabaddi League at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. This was their 2nd and gave them 11 points and a 3rd place on the table. However, Delhi can take a lot of heart from this performance as they came close to causing an upset.
After three minutes of action, both the teams were level at 2 each, but that was just the lull before the storm. U Mumba stunned the bottom dwelling Dabang Delhi with their attacking play in the next 10 minutes, but not without some errors.
Dabang Delhi had answers to the U Mumba's attack and defense as the match went neck and neck. The U Mumba defence led by Rakesh Kumar and some brilliant raiding by Rishank made it 14-12 in their favor at the half-time.
The second half saw both the defensive structures working as a well-oiled unit. However, it was just a matter of time for the Mumbai-based franchise to increase the gap between them and their opponents, as they lead 24-19 after 35 minutes.
While Anup and Rakesh were the showmen who taunted their rivals, Surjeet went about his job in a cool way. He kept on earning tackle points as the U Mumba defense was making it count.
Delhi too did a decent job in both departments as Sachin Shingade got another “High 5”(5 tackle points). But, they were distinctly unlucky as all the vigil made by Kashi and Selvamani in the raiding department went down the drain in the last minutes of the match. It was a nail-biting encounter, which went down to the last raid for the result.
Surender Singh, who had an off day, went in for the second last raid for U Mumba and got caught, making the score 26-24. Selvamani got a point in the next raid bringing the lead down to just one point. Those two points helped the Dabang Delhi at 26-25. Anup Kumar had to go out and ensure Delhi did not tie or win the match after Mumba dominated most of the match.
He came, he saw, and he conquered Delhi with a point in the dying seconds of the match, and the victory was his.
