Indian Kabaddi team captain Ajay Thakur talked about the prospect of India securing their eight successive gold medal in the upcoming Asian Games in Palembang as the team enter the event as favourites. Thakur added that as per his opinion, Iran, Pakistan, and Republic of Korea are the teams to beat.

The Indian Kabaddi team have by far ruled the sport for the longest time and the recent triumph in the Dubai masters against Iran in the final was a testament to the ruthless form of the Indian team. Skipper Ajay Thakur was borderline bullish of his side’s chances to secure gold at next month’s Asian Games which will be held in Palembang. Thakur reckoned that the Indians are confident of their abilities to return home with a gold medal for the eighth successive time in the tournament’s history.

“The men’s and women’s teams are geared up to achieve their 8th consecutive gold and 3rd consecutive gold respectively at the Asian games.

“Our athletes have consistently proved their mettle and have performed under pressure. Winning the recently concluded Kabaddi Masters Dubai 2018 has significantly raised the spirits of the team as we went up against a few top contenders for the Asian Games including Pakistan and Iran. We aim to continue the positive momentum at the Asian games as well,” Thakur told PTI sources.

Thakur also added that Iran, Pakistan and Republic of Korea would be the biggest challenge for the Indian team at the mega-event and said that they have a mix of youth and experience to do well in Indonesia.

“Among the teams featuring in the Asian Games, Iran, Pakistan and Republic of Korea are the teams to beat. All the three teams possess a perfect balance of youth as well as seasoned players and they have the uncanny ability to raise the quality of their game in crunch situations,”  Thakur added.
