Ahead of the upcoming season of the Pro Kabaddi League, Dabang Delhi have decided to replace Meraj Sheykh with Joginder Narwal as the captain of the side. Dabang Delhi, who only five games out of 22 last year, will kick-start their campaign against Gujarat Fortune Giants on October 9.

Although Delhi have been a part of the PKL since the very first season of the league, the team has never been able to make it into the playoffs in five attempts. In order to change this, the team decided to retain the services of Meraj Sheykh, Tushar Balaram Bhoir, Tapas Pal and Vishal ahead of the 2018 auction. Delhi decided to spend big in the auction acquiring the services of Chandran Ranjit (Rs. 61.25 lakh) and Vishal Mane (Rs. 45 lakh) as their two major buys.

Based on the kind of team that Delhi have been put out this season, Narwal is confident of the team performing better this time around.

“The team is looking good, and we have young and fit players to last the longer season. We have skilled and experienced players in all departments and the young guns add depth to the Dabang squad. With utility players across the team, our aim is to be the team to watch this season,” Narwal said, reported PTI.

Despite retaining the experienced Meraj Sheykh, Delhi decided to hand over the reins of the side to Joginder Narwal. The defender has a host of experience behind him as well having previously represented Bengaluru Bulls, Puneri Paltan, and U Mumba in the PKL. Calling Narwal an asset to the team, Delhi’s chief coach Krishna Kumar Hooda added that the fans will be given enough reasons to cheer in the upcoming season.

“Joginder Narwal is a strong asset to the team in the upcoming season and I am sure he will lead the team very well. He is a versatile player - our take down tiger- one who defends well to take down the opposition. He is extremely fit and skillful and with his new squad, I am sure that he and the team will give all its fans reasons to cheer and rejoice through the league”. Hooda added.
