Anderson return a good news for England, says Alastair Cook

“James Anderson will join England’s Test squad in India next week, and is increasingly hopeful of playing a significant part in the five-match series after making encouraging progress in his recovery from a shoulder injury,” read an official statement on Saturday by the ECB website.

Following this news, visiting England team's captain Alastair Cook was upbeat that the pace bowling spearhead could recover in time to play in the second Test of the five-match series against India.

"(It's) really good news about Anderson. He has worked hard to get back. He's got the all clear. Just chatted with him yesterday and the day before. (Him playing in the) second Test (at Vizag) is a good possibility. We will know more after seeing how his body reacts," Cook said on Saturday at his first press conference after arriving in India.

After suffering from a stress fracture to his right shoulder mid-August, Anderson was sidelined for England's recently concluded series against Bangladesh. Though admitting that returning to play in India will be tough for Anderson, Cook also felt that the wealth of experience the 34-year old brings to the team will be valuable.

"It's[Anderson's return] certainly not ideal. But he's well aware of the challenge. He needs to get some overs and get some miles in his legs," said the England opener.

"His experience of these conditions and the number of wickets he has got in all types of conditions will only help the other guys," he added.

England's head coach Trevor Bayliss also felt Anderson's arrival will help the team.

"To get anyone back with that experience and that many wickets will be very good for everyone. He has the experience of bowling in these conditions," said Bayliss.

The first Test match of the five-match series between India and England will start on November 9, at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot, Gujarat.
