Ben Stokes produced a magnificent performance with both bat and ball to rescue a win from the jaws of defeat for England in the first Test in Bangladesh. The defeat ensured that England have a 100% winning record in Tests against the sub continent team, winning the game by just 22 runs.

Brief scores: England 293 (Moeen Ali 68, Mehedi Hasan 6-80) & 240 (Ben Stokes 85, Shakib Al Hasan 5-85) vs Bangladesh 248 (Tamim Iqbal 78, Ben Stokes 4-26) & 263 (Sabbir Rahman 64*, Gareth Batty 3-65)

The match started with enough hints of the drama to follow - England got off to a bad start finding themselves three wickets down with only 21 runs on the scoreboard, but in an incredible six balls Moeen Ali was given out thrice and was revived all three times following a referral. He ended up getting the highest score for England as they ended their first innings with a score 293.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, reached a score of 221-5 but a late collapse saw the Tigers end up with a score of just 248, Tamim Iqbal being the major contributor with a score of 78.

After the first innings, the game looked to be leaning slightly in favour of the Englishmen as they started the second innings with a lead of 48 runs. But a brilliant bowling display by the Bangladesh team lead by Shakib Al Hasan, England were reduced to 62-5. England had to rely on Ben Stokes, who dug them out of the hole scoring a brilliant 85 taking the score to 240.

Bangladesh came out of the box flying getting to a score of 227-6. At the end of Day 4, the hosts needed just 32 runs to win while the visitors needed a couple of wickets.

It was Ben Stokes again who came up with the goods clearing up the tail as Bangladesh fell 22 runs short of their target and their hopes of winning their first Test against England.

Here are some of the Twitter reactions from the 1st Test :
