A top BCCI official has questioned Sourav Ganguly’s role as a brand ambassador given that the former India captain is currently the president of Cricket Association of Bengal and a member of the IPL Governing Council. The official, however, admitted to the ambiguity surrounding these matters.

Despite his playing days being well behind him, it’s hard to keep Ganguly out of the news. 'Dada' is a TV expert and columnist and it has now emerged that Ganguly has been pitted against former BCCI president N Srinivasan to represent the BCCI at an important ICC meeting in Dubai on April 24.

Ganguly has been seen on the giant hoardings at the Holkar Stadium in Indore promoting a leading courier company who are official logistics partner of Kings XI Punjab. An unnamed top BCCI official has raised a question on whether the 44-year-old can continue to endorse products when he is a member of the IPL Governing Council.

"There's an ambiguity around these things, but actually when one is an administrator in the board, one should avoid all this. It's not right to sail in two boats. He's also a member of the IPL Governing Council," the official told the Times of India.

Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the BCCI is concerned about the poor umpiring standards in IPL 2017 and the issue was taken up during a meeting between IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla, BCCI CEO Rahul Johri and IPL in-charge Hemang Amin.

On Sunday, Rohit Sharma was wrongly given lbw despite getting a big inside edge on the ball during the Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders encounter at the Wankhede Stadium. In fact, poor umpiring has been a feature of the domestic season. Earlier, Parthiv Patel had questioned how the same set of umpires were asked to officiate in important games after he was a victim of a bad decision during the Irani Cup at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai in January.
