WATCH | Suryakumar Yadav makes a valiant effort to take a catch, and admits it went for six

The incident took place in the 16th over when Sunil Narine bowled three dots to put pressure on Ravindra Jadeja. The asking rate had crept up and Jadeja surely needed to go big and he mostly certainly did. Unfortunately for him, he top-edged the delivery and it seemed his day on the field would come to an end as Suryakumar was well placed under the ball, ready to take the catch just off the boundary ropes.

The Kolkata fans were already cheering but as the ball seemed to go over Suryakumar, he stretched himself, leaning back more than he had hoped far, losing his balance, and crossing the boundary ropes as he threw the ball in the air. Yadav then quickly crossed the rope to be back on the field, and pluck the ball which was suspended in the air, seeming to have taken another of the great IPL catches.

But that was not to be, as Suryakumar immediately raised both his hands up in the air, signalling that it had gone for a six. Replays showed that while he was taking the catch, part of his foot just about brushed the boundary ropes. 

While the decision for whether Jadeja was out would have surely gone to the third umpire, had Yadav appealed, one must commend him for clearing the air himself, and not subjecting the viewers to a few minutes of replays in what was a fast paced match coming to an end.

We pass on our regards to Suryakumar for both his valiant effort on the field, and being a class of a gentleman. That was easily the Fair Play moment of the day.
