Escaping from MS Dhoni’s lightning fast activity behind the stumps is a very rare stuff and Dinesh Chandimal must be feeling lucky as he got a lifeline by Dhoni. During the ongoing third ODI match, Dhoni failed to collect a KL Rahul throw on time which helped Chandimal return to his crease safely.

Of late, there have been enough instances to show that the former skipper is simply not delivering to his usual lofty standards - with the same unerring consistency like he used to in the years gone by but amidst all that, the 35-year-old has still more than enough left in the tank to keep up with the physical demands of limited-overs cricket due to his inhuman fitness levels. Still, when it comes to his glovework, there is hardly anyone who can come close to him in the current age.

But everyone has an off day and it seemed it was one off day for Dhoni, who failed to collect a throw and thus gave Dinesh Chandimal a lifeline. This rare incident took place in the 25th over of the game when Axar Patel delivered a ball to Chandimal to which the latter played towards the midwicket region. KL Rahul got hold of the ball easily and threw towards keeper’s end. In that moment Chandimal was yards away from his crease, but Dhoni failed to collect the ball cleanly as he touched the stumps only with his gloves, which resulted in a lifeline to the Sri Lankan opener who got enough time to come back.

At the end of the 25 overs, Sri Lanka scored 97 runs with the loss of two wickets. But in the next over, Hardik Pandya ensured that Chandimal didn't damage Indian team anymore as he sent him back to the dressing room.
