Pakistan Cricket Board demands $70m from BCCI for not fulfilling 2014 agreement

The two boards had signed a Memorandum of Understanding back in 2014 when N Srinivasan was the president, under which they were due to play six bilateral series between 2014 and 2023. The PCB had signed the MoU to back the Big Three proposal and a new ICC financial model.

The BCCI has since then maintained that they need the Indian government’s permission to play Pakistan, a condition not specified in the MoU. However, the BCCI set-up under Anurag Thakur rejected the MoU, dismissing it as a “piece of paper.”

The PCB, who has allocated a sum of $US 1million for the case, is confident that they can win the case after the assessment of their UK-based lawyers who have assured them of a strong case.

The ICC has also confirmed that they have received an official legal notice from the PCB for the BCCI case. “The ICC has received a Notice of Dispute from the PCB’s lawyers, which will be forwarded to the Chairman of the Dispute Committee next week,” an ICC spokesman said.

Under the ICC Dispute Resolution Committee, headed by the Hon Michael Beloff QC, the panel will be formed once one of the parties sends a notice.

“As soon as practicable after a Notice of Dispute has been received, the Chairperson of the Committee shall convene a Dispute Panel to hear and determine the dispute. The Dispute Panel shall consist of three current members of the Committee, unless the Chairperson of the Committee determines (in his/her absolute discretion) that the matter should be heard by one member of the Committee sitting alone,” the terms of the committee read.

Both the South Asian nations have not played against each other in a full bilateral series since 2007-08.
