Joe Root may miss the start of England’s one-day series
England star batsman Joe Root may miss the start of England’s one-day series in India beginning January 15, as he awaits the arrival of his first child. The visitors will play their first warm-up match against the Board Presidents’ XI in Mumbai on January 10.
Joe Root, who has been England’s mainstay in their limited-over renaissance, is awaiting the arrival of his first child with wife Clarrie.
Root is likely to miss the first warm-up match in January 10 at Mumbai and may also miss the second warm-up match on January 12.
The Daily Mail has reported that an England and Wales Cricket Board spokesman confirmed Root is not expected to be amongst the travelling party as things stand.
In October, during the series against Bangladesh, England Test captain Alastair Cook had opted to travel early to Bangladesh for 10 days of acclimatization before returning home for his paternal duties and rejoined the rest of the team after the birth of his second daughter.
England are slated to play three one-day internationals and three T20I in the second leg of their tour. The first of the three-match One-day series begins on 15th January at the MCA Stadium in Pune. The next two games of the series will be played in Cuttack and Kolkata.
