Ben Stokes wants English players to "experience" IPL
English all-rounder Ben Stokes has claimed that he is ready to try his hand in the lucrative Indian Premier League(IPL) and encouraged other English players to experience the league. The 25-year-old will now be a part of the IPL auction that will be held on February 4.
The tenth edition of the IPL will begin on April 5 but England and Stokes have a One-Day series scheduled against Ireland on May 5. But the Englishman said that even though the IPL is a good opportunity, the national team will always be the first priority for him.
"It's a good opportunity to go away and experience different competitions. If they want us to come back and report for England, which is our job, then we'll come back and have no complaints," said Stokes, reported the BBC.
However, before the IPL auction even begins, Stokes will be a part of the English team that will hope to salvage some pride in the limited-overs format against India - after losing 4-0 in the Test series.
English captain Eoin Morgan and Alex Hales are also a part of the auction but whether or not they would be allowed to stay the entire season remains a mystery.
"This year's IPL is a chance for not just myself but other England guys to experience what it's like and see a different side to T20 cricket," said Stokes, who has represented England in 18 T20 international matches.
Stokes, however, has some forgetting to do when it comes to T20s and India - he was at the receiving end when Carlos Brathwaite smashed four consecutive sixes off the final over to take West Indies to the World T20 title.
India and England will resume their rivalry from Sunday when they square off in the first ODI in Pune.
