BCCI acting president calls for Special General Meeting on July 26
BCCI acting President C.K Khanna has called for a Special General Meeting on July 26th to once again discuss the implementation of the Lodha Panel reforms. In the previous meeting, the board had announced the formation of a 7-member committee to oversee the swift implementation of the Lodha reforms.
The Committee of Administrators (CoA) recently submitted their fourth report to the Supremer Court on the implementation of the Lodha Panel reforms and expressed difficulty in building a general agreement among the state boards in implementing the Lodha Panel reforms.
In their previous meeting, the Indian board formed a special seven-member committee headed by IPL chairman, Rajeev Shukla and convened by BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhary to oversee the implementation of the Supreme Court appointed-Lodha Panel recommendations. The committee also comprises Sourav Ganguly, T.C. Mathew, Naba Bhattacharjee, Jay Shah and Anirudh Chaudhary.
"In terms of the decision taken in the Special General Meeting (SGM) held at the Cricket Centre, Mumbai on June 26 with regard to the issues relating to the implementation of the judgment of the Supreme Court dated July 18, 2016, the undersigned is pleased to announce the following seven-member committee to identify the few critical points in respect of the said judgement for the general body of the BCCI to consider before its submission to the Supreme Court," said the BCCI in a release.
"In view of the fact that the next date of hearing in the matter is fixed for July 14, 2017, the committee is requested to fix an early date for its meeting in order to ensure that the above task is undertaken with utmost urgency and its written report circulated by July 10, 2017, so that the same may be considered by the general body and finalised prior to the above hearing," the release added.
The release further stated that BCCI acting president C.K. Khanna would be informed on a regular basis about the committee's thought process and discussions on the issue and the final report to be submitted to him, to be presented to the general body.
It was in this meeting, that the CoA flagged various issues including accusing former office bearers N. Srinivasan and Niranjan Shah of having vested interests and disrupting the meeting in order to stall the reforms.
"The SGM on June 26 was attended by various persons who are disqualified from being office bearers of BCCI and/or their respective state/member associations including N. Srinivasan (represented TNCA) and Niranjan Shah (Saurashtra CA) amongst others. Such disqualified persons have a vested interest in stalling implementation of judgement because if the judgement is implemented, such disqualified person will have to relinquish control over their respective state associations." it added.
