Sourav Ganguly : Kohli-Kumble spat should have been handled a lot better

The rift between Indian skipper Virat Kohli and former head coach Anil Kumble, first emerged when the Men in Blue were set to leave for England to defend their Champions Trophy title. Following the reports, multiple revelations surfaced that exposed the rift completely and the final confirmation was made by Anil Kumble himself, who posted an open resignation letter to BCCI wherein he named his 'untenable' relationship with Kohli as the reason for his resignation. 

However, Cricket Association of Bengal's President, Sourav Ganguly has stated that the matter should have been handled in a much better way.

"The matter between Kumble and Kohli should have been handled a lot better, by whoever in charge. It was not handled properly." Ganguly told PTI.

Following Kumble's resignation, Ravi Shastri's name started doing rounds for the post, owing to his previous equation with Kohli while he was the director of the team. But despite this, Shastri did not apply for the post.

Finally, yesterday, Shastri announced that he will be submitting an application for the now vacant post. Meanwhile, Ganguly along with Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman will play a pivotal role in naming the new coach, as they form the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee. 

However, it was the same committee that had chosen Kumble over Shastri for the post last year. And though, Shastri firmly believes that it was Ganguly who convinced Tendulkar and Laxman against him for the post, the former southpaw clarified his equation with Shastri saying, "Everybody has got the right to apply. We will find out. I can also apply provided I'm not an administrator."

Moreover, Ganguly was also named in a seven-member committee chaired by Rajeev Shukla that would overlook the implementation of the Lodha committee reforms. Ganguly is the only cricketer on the panel and said. "We will have to listen to the committee of administrators. I'm not exactly sure what will happen but I will find out."  

Finally, the former Indian skipper also informed the media about CAB's meet on July 1st where the board will discuss the implementation of the Lodha committee reforms. "We did not have SGM last year. Till the reforms are done it won't happen. We have informed the members of the meeting to discuss what's the way forward."
