WATCH | Steve Smith ignores umpire's suggestion, opts for horrendous review
Since DRS-gate, it appears the review Gods have decided to punish Australia, with Steve Smith failing to get his reviews right. Today, in the ongoing Dharamsala Test, even after umpire Marais Erasmus indicated that there had been an inside edge, Smith opted to go for an unsuccessful lbw review.
The incident occurred on the last ball of the 108th over when a Josh Hazlewood delivery hit Wriddhiman Saha on the pads in front of his stumps after flying off a crack. The entire Australian team went up in an appeal that was turned down by Erasmus. After the appeals had died down and the Australian team was deciding whether or not to opt for a review, Erasmus pointed to the Aussies that he had seen an edge.
Smith ignored the umpire's suggestion and called for a review. The TV umpire took just one look and stayed with the umpire's decision as the Australians were left frustrated once again. The Dharamsala Test had not seen a review taken until the final session of Day 2 when Smith opted for three poor ones in seven overs.
Whether or not DRS-gate has played a big part in the Aussies' decision-making capabilities remains to be seen, but after the trolls that the Indian team faced earlier in the series, they have a new target now.
