MS Dhoni is known for being one of the fittest players around, marked by his incredible running between the wickets. However, that’s exactly what made his run out last night so uncharacteristic. Not only was Dhoni slow off the mark, he also wasn’t anticipating the throw at his end.

For all his incredible abilities when it comes to taking quick singles, yesterday Dhoni showed us that even the best can be caught off-guard.

The run out occurred in the 18th over of Pune Supergiant's chase against Delhi Daredevils when Dhoni played a Pat Cummins delivery to fine leg and ambled off for a single. While Manoj Tiwary was quick to respond to Dhoni’s call, the former skipper appeared to be in no hurry to complete the run, perhaps not expecting the throw to come to his end.

Mohammad Shami knocked the stumps down at the non-striker's end with an accurate throw. Replays showed that Dhoni was caught short. It was the game-changing moment in the match as Pune eventually fell short by seven runs.

Dhoni’s dismissal could well be a life lesson to everyone on how one should expect the unexpected.
