There’s seemingly no way to keep Ben Stokes out of the IPL this season. After his exploits with both bat and ball this season, the Englishman, against DD, effected a brilliant direct-hit to dismiss Sanju Samson, before pulling off a stunning catch on the midwicket boundary to dismiss Mohammad Shami.

Mohammad Shami was looking to make the most of the last over of the Delhi innings and he hoicked a Jaydev Unadkat delivery to the mid-wicket boundary off the penultimate ball of the Delhi innings. Shami’s strike looked set to go over the fence, but once again, Ben Stokes had other ideas. The English all-rounder took flight at the edge of the deep midwicket boundary, before leaping to pluck the ball out of thin air. But his momentum took Stokes over the boundary. However, Stokes had the presence of mind to toss the ball back into the field of play, before entering the field once again to complete a stunning effort.

The English all-rounder took flight at the edge of the deep midwicket boundary to pluck the ball out of thin air. But with his momentum taking him over the ropes, Stokes had the presence of mind to toss the ball back into the field of play, before entering the field once again to complete a stunning effort. The catch restricted Delhi to a score of 168/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Clearly, the Englishman’s all round performances in all three departments of the game have more than justified the rs. 14.4 crores that Pune shelled out for him in the IPL auction.
