India vs Sri Lanka | Rain may play spoilsport in Eden Gardens Test

India handed a 9-0 white-wash to Sri Lanka in all formats of the game when the Men in Blue toured the island nation a few months back. The Virat Kohli-led Indian side now have a chance to go level with the England side of 1880s and Ricky Ponting's 2000s Australia as the only teams to have won 9 consecutive Test series. However, it appears that the Rain Gods might want to have a say in the matter, at least at the start of the series.

"Due to rainy weather, the practice has been cancelled. The team will remain confined to the hotel today," an India team management official said, reported IANS.

As per Accuweather, it doesn't get better for the Men in Blue as the next two days are also expected to be affected by the rain. The website has predicted rain in the morning session and while it will reduce around 11 am, there is a high probability of the rain returning for the afternoon session. Even on Friday, there is 62% chance of precipitation while the following days are expected to be cloudy and humid with chances of showers and thunderstorms.

"Light rain will continue for the next two days. The weather will clear up only after that," a weather department official said.

If the play affected by the rain then the teams can extend the game for the day. And if the rain washes out the first day then the umpires can take a call to start the session early or take the option to extend the session, depending on the light, on the remaining days.
