India vs Sri Lanka | Sourav Ganguly hints at a good wicket for Eden Test
Ahead of the first Test match of the India-Sri Lanka series, CAB President Sourav Ganguly has inspected the Eden Gardens pitch in Kolkata and believes that the track will produce a competitive match. The first five-dayer of the three-match Test series will start on November 16 at the Eden Gardens.
In their visit to Sri Lanka this year, Team India handed the island nation a 9-0 whitewash in all three formats and will now hope to repeat the same on home territory. Along will three Tests, Sri Lanka will play three ODIs and the same number of T20Is on the tour as well. The full series will start tomorrow with the first Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Ahead of the series opener, Ganguly visited the stadium and inspected the pitch and predicted that the pitch will offer a good contest.
"It will be a good wicket," the former India skipper told reporters, as quoted by PTI.
The Cricket Association of Bengal president later compared the role of the player and administrator and said playing is always more difficult compared to administration.
"Here you miss and you get out, in every other thing you get a second chance. As a player, you don't... Playing is always difficult there's no retake for a player," Ganguly said at a promotional event also attended by India's first World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev.
Kapil recalled the day when he was sacked from the Indian cricket team in the fourth Test against England at the Eden Gardens in December 1984.
"I was not in Kolkata, I was back in Delhi as I was out of the team enjoying a six-day holiday given to me by the selectors," Kapil quipped when asked about the incident.
