MS Dhoni has made a reputation for himself with his lightning quick glove work, and today he added one more feather to his hat as he became the first wicketkeeper to effect 100 stumpings in ODI cricket. He achieved the milestone by disturbing Akila Dananjaya’s stumps on a Yuzvendra Chahal delivery.

In recent times - apart from the ongoing series against Sri Lanka - there have been enough instances to show that the former skipper is simply not playing to his usual lofty standards - with the same unerring consistency. Even many experts signed him off and asked him to call a day in his career as Dhoni has not been close to his best when it comes to connecting the hits, down the ground, with the same ferocity as he had produced in the years gone by. However, what hasn’t dwindled a bit was his lightning quick reflexes behind the stumps and time and again, he has proved that why he has been hailed as the quickest wicket keeper in World cricket at the moment.

In the fourth ODI, the former skipper proved his impeccable awareness as he insisted Virat Kohli to go for a review despite umpire calling a ball wide and got it overturned to give Shardul Thakur his first international wicket. Today, in the fifth and final ODI of the series, he completed his 100th ODI stumping of the career and made it a day to remember.

The incident took place in the 45th over of the Sri Lanka innings when Yuzvendra Chahal delivered the last ball of the over to Akila Dananjaya. The flighted ball went straight to the batsman and trying to drive the ball, Dhananjay came forward but failed to get any connection on the bat. Perhaps he had forgotten that Dhoni was behind the stumps, and staying true to his abilities, Dhoni whipped off the bails to complete his 100th ODI stumping

With this, Dhoni also became the first wicketkeeper in the history of ODI cricket to effect 100 stumping dismissals, overtaking Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara. However, Sangakkara took 404 ODIs to reach this figure, while Dhoni now has 100 stumpings in just 301 ODIs. Third wicket-keeper on the list is Romesh Kaluwitharana, who did 75 stumpings during his time in the game.
