After losing skipper and opening batsman David Warner for this season’s IPL due to the ban imposed by Cricket Australia, the Sunrisers Hyderabad team will be led by Kiwi batsman Kane Williamson. The SRH franchise will look to have a positive season in this year’s edition of the IPL.

Sunrisers Hyderabad came into the existence when the BCCI decided to end its deal with the Deccan Chargers team ahead of the 2012 edition of the Indian Premier League. The Sun group of companies won the bid and emerged as the owners of side that they now called - Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Ever since its inception in 2013, the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise have had a series of ups an downs in its short association. They ended their inaugural season in the play-offs stage where they lost the eliminator match against Rajasthan Royals by 4 wickets at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.

SRH have had a series of foreign talent to lead the side over the years. They were led by Sri Lankan skipper Kumara Sangakkara in their first season although Australian all-rounder Cameron White took over midway in an attempt to improve the performance of the team as a whole. Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan had also been part of the leadership setup for the 2014 season where the tournament was partially held outside India with the opening 20 matches in the UAE.

Over the years, the SRH have bolstered their ranks along the years. David Warner has been one of the most influential batsmen over the years for the Hyderabad team. He will surely be missed this year as he will miss the tournament along with compatriot Steven Smith due to the entire ‘Sandpapergate’ saga. Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson was announced as the skipper in Warner’s absence and will lead a side that boasts players such as Shakib Al Hasan, Darren Bravo, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Chris Jordan, Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan amongst others.

The Indian Premier League is around the corner and is set to begin on April 7 with Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in action in the first match of the tournament. The Sunrisers Hyderabad are slated to take on newly-returning Rajasthan Royals on the third day of the tournament in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.

In honor of that, we have prepared an interesting quiz in order to refresh your knowledge about the Hyderabad-based team. Don’t forget to tweet your results to us at @IndiaSportsCafe.
