IPL 2018 | Deepak Chahar is an impressive fine talent, believes Stephen Fleming
Admiring Deepak Chahar’s accurate swing bowling, Stephen Fleming has noted that the young man is an exciting prospect to watch out for in the future. The CSK head coach has also pinpointed that his ability to swing the ball at any pace and his usefulness with the bat makes him even more special.
Deepak Chahar became the cynosure when he was just 18 years old. Playing a match against Hyderabad, the speedster displayed his skills and picked up eight wickets for 10 runs and ended up the Ranji Trophy season with 30 wickets. He then later drafted to Rajasthan Royals squad, but the injuries came as a roadblock for the promising talent. Chahar also was the top wicket-taker in 20-over Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy With 19 wickets in Rajasthan's maiden run to the final this season and secured a permanent place in the playing XI for Chennai Super Kings, where he astonished everyone by being the team's best bowler so far.
On Tuesday (April 24), Stephen Fleming applauded the young Indian talent to a great extent and opined that the pacer’s ability to swing the ball at a good pace and his usefulness as a batsman makes him special.
“He has been developing over the last two years. He had a very good domestic season. His skill set was something we were very impressed with since the first day. He is actually a handy batsman as well. We think he is a fine cricketer," Fleming told on the eve of the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore reported by TOI.
"The fact that he swings the ball is important. Lots of trends in the game, obviously wrist spinners and swinging the ball are very effective at the moment. And he does that and he does it at a good pace too. At the moment he's around 140 kph, 143 tops. He's gone really well. He has got to find and maintain consistency and that will come with experience," he said.
Cricket fans are eagerly waiting for Wednesday’s clash between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore and Fleming said that the contest between Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni as captains make it a great game.
“CSK is enjoying a good run but RCB is a tough side to beat, with great batting and good bowling line-up. We know we have to play very well to put any pressure in the top order and they have also got good bowlers. Umesh Yadav has been excellent with the new ball. Chahal - So, there is lot of good contest at hands."
CSK gave chance to Harbhajan Singh in the beginning, but in last two matches the team dropped the veteran off-spinner and replaced with Karn Sharma in the team. Clarifying the game plan, Fleming said the team management decides the combination looking at the potential of the rival teams.
"It is all about getting the balance right. Karan took Tahir's place because he suffered an injury. Harbhajan Singh is good at bowling to left-handers. So, we picked him up at Chennai where the ball turns and bounces. We pick team looking at the potential of the rival team. They could all play, maybe someday," he said.
