Jasprit Bumrah likely to miss Lord's Test due to slow recovery
Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah has been battling a thumb injury for the past few weeks and is likely to miss the second Test against England at Lord’s due to a longer recovery period. Bumrah has been bowling regularly in the nets but needs more time to recover to be able to play comfortably.
Despite his fractured thumb, Bumrah was picked by the selectors in the Indian Test squad for the first three Test matches against England. The selectors were hoping that Bumrah would be able to recover and would be able to play the second Test. The BCCI while naming the squad stated that Bumrah would be available for selection from the 2nd Test onwards based on his fitness. However, according to CricNext, it is unlikely that the pacer would be able to make it into the playing XI since his recovery has been taking longer than expected.
Bumrah was injured during the first T20I against Ireland and was with the team during the T20I series against England. He returned home during the ODI series (against England) after undergoing a surgery in the United Kingdom. He was back in the squad joined by the likes of Ishant Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara and Mohammad Shami before the warm-up game against Essex.
Even though the Indian bowlers did a good job, Umesh Yadav was the weak link and would have been a possible replacement for Bumrah. Yadav just picked 3 wickets at an economy of 3.29 runs per over in the first Test, a game dominated by fast bowlers.
