India vs England | Jasprit Bumrah ruled out for Lord's Test
Indian bowling coach Bharat Arun has confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah has not been completely recovered from his thumb injury and will not take part in the second Test against England at Lord’s. Bumrah had suffered the injury against Ireland in the first T20I and has been out of action since then.
India began their long tour of the British Isles with a trip to Ireland where they were scheduled to play two T20Is. Even though India won the series 2-0, it had a lasting impact on the tour as Bumrah suffered an injury to his thumb that ruled him out of the limited overs series against England. He underwent surgery in England before he returning back home and began rehabilitation under BCCI’s medical team.
However, Bumrah was recalled to England ahead of the Test series and was included in the squad for the first three matches of the five match series. Due to lack of fitness and with his rehabilitation not complete, Bumrah was not included in the playing XI for the Edgbaston Test that India lost by 31 runs. There was, however, a belief that he would be ready to restart his tour in the second Test at Lord's but that too has been rendered redundant as Arun claimed that he was not ready for a match yet.
"Jasprit Bumrah is bowling fit right now but I think it's too early to put him into a game-like situation because, I think, he needs to come out of the band-aid/plaster on his hand. For the second Test, he is out of contention," Bharat Arun confirmed today as quoted by Cricbuzz.
