What happens when things go from bad to worse? Ask the Bangladeshi and Windies’ players who were involved in a hilarious goof-up on day two of the second Test match in Dhaka. Taijul Islam was given a lifeline after Windies’ pacer Shermon Lewis failed to hit the stumps from less than five yards.

The ongoing Test series between Bangladesh and Windies seems to have it all, from dropped catches to embarrassing celebrations and also missed run-outs, everything is happening in Dhaka.

The latest drama came during Bangladesh’s second innings on day two, with Taijul Islam and Mahmudullah at the crease. Windies’ bowler Shermon Lewis was at the non-striker's end and had a length ball steered to the right of the keeper by Mahmudullah. Meanwhile, Taijul ran across to the other end for a quick single. But Mahmudullah continued to keep his eyes on the ball and did not spot the non-striker approaching.

On realising that Mahmudullah had no clue about his run, Taijul made a last-gasp run back to the non-striker's end while the bowler has a shy at the stumps. Lewis missed by a mile which gave Taijul an added lifeline on the crease and also gave the audience watching at home and in the stadium a reason to smile.
