VIDEO | Rishabh Pant does running commentary behind the stumps as Fox commentators remain silent for entire over
Since the last two days of Adelaide Test, Rishabh Pant has been a spectacle behind the stumps thanks to the continuous sledging that he has been doing. Today, Fox paid a tribute to him as they stopped their commentary for an over so as to allow people listen to Pant’s one-liners behind the stumps.
The Australian way of mental disintegration was a hugely successful formula and gave them immense success in the late 90s and early 2000s. The players used to haunt in a pack and not give the other teams any chance to recover from the mental trauma. However, Newlands scandal changed the way Australian cricket was operating and the team has become a more sedate one. Or in fact, they have traded their aggression with India.
Pat Cummins was on strike when Ashwin was bowling the 76th over of the run-chase, and Pant continuously had a word or two to say about the game. With his Delhi Daredevils teammate struggling there, he immediately started, “C’mon Patty, It is not easy to survive”.
While Cummins didn’t give a heed to what he was saying, Pant didn’t stop and kept on saying, “It is not easy to play here lads” and “C’ mon Ash, use that rough”. He even used an Australian accent to irritate Cummins. Commentators were clearly enjoying his antics as the production unit decided to stop commentary for the entire over and used a ticker asking the viewers to rather listen to the stump mic.
