MS Dhoni has made a name for himself by following his gut and instincts and has been a picture of calm unless and until he is confident of a dismissal. Today, despite Ajinkya Rahane started celebrating a dismissal from a better position on the field, Dhoni waited and, eventually, was proved right.

South Africa, after winning the toss, started the innings on a good note and despite losing the wickets of Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock, they seemed to be in a good position to post a decent enough score on the board. However, a moment of madness looked to crash their dreams altogether.

On the 4th ball of the 17th over, Aiden Markram cut a Yuzvendra Chahal delivery to the point region and immediately set for a single when a comfortable run was actually not on offer. Faf du Plessis, Markram’s partner at the other end, decided to set out go for the run, but Rohit Sharma, who was stationed at short point picked the ball up and threw in the direction of MS Dhoni.

And Dhoni, whose back was facing du Plessis’s dive, immediately disturbed the furniture and for a moment, it seemed like du Plessis was not even sure about making the ground. Seeing that Ajinkya Rahane, standing at first slip, who had a better view of the things that transpired started celebrating and you would have expected Dhoni to share the moment and join them for the celebration. But it was not the Dhoni thing to do and he didn’t.

While from his movement and facial expression, it seemed like he was either unsure about his CSK mate making the ground or he was sure that it was a not out. While the truth may not see the light of the day, Dhoni was anyways proven right as the replays suggested that the South African skipper grounded his bat much before Dhoni uprooted the stumps.
