Chennai Super Kings have announced the appointment of Mike Hussey as their new batting coach as they continue to collect the pieces that had helped them dominate the IPL for years. They had also chosen to retain star players - MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja - ahead of the mega-auction.

The former Australian cricketer was a significant cog in CSK’s wheel from 2008 to 2013, during which the yellow army won the IPL title twice. Though he was picked by Mumbai Indians in the 2014 auction, CSK bought him back in the following season. The southpaw remains the third highest scorer for the franchise after Raina and Dhoni with 1768 runs.

CSK have returned to the IPL, alongside Rajasthan Royals, after two-year suspension following the 2013 scandal. And they are trying to retain most of their previous players and staff, which ended up being quite a successful formula.

"I am really excited about returning to the Chennai Super Kings in a coaching capacity and working with the players to help them get the best out of themselves and also help to bring success to this great franchise," Hussey said, reported Cricbuzz.

"I have so many great memories as a player and have made many wonderful friends in Chennai and now I am excited about giving back to the franchise in trying to help the next generation of CSK players. It is exciting to have CSK back in the competition and I am sure the fans are very happy to have their team back on the field."

An experienced cricketer like Hussey would play a quintessential role during the mega-auction scheduled for January 27 and 28 as CSK try and rebuild the side around the retained three.
