It is high time the two boards sorted out their differences, says Javed Miandad

The political relationship between the cricketing countries of India and Pakistan have been at an all-time low since 2008 with a short limited over series held in 2012-13 in India being the only bilateral series held between them. And the continuing severed ties between the two nations meant that it would be a long time before they faced each other in a bilateral series again.

However, the former Pakistan skipper has called for the two countries to call a truce and sort out their issues in order to get things back on track as far the sport of cricket was concerned.  Miandad further added that it was a shame that despite having good teams and exciting young talents in both their squads, India and Pakistan could not compete against each other on regular basis.

“It is high time the two boards got on one platform and tried to convince the governments to give clearance for the resumption of bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan. What is the purpose of this World Test Championship or any other ICC backed league if India and Pakistan don’t play against each other,” Miandad said in an interview.

Miandad, who is considered by many to be the greatest cricketer Pakistan had ever produced, also spoke about how he had lost all hope in the ICC in playing any role to get India and Pakistan to resume bilateral cricket.

“India and Pakistan series is much bigger than the Ashes and if we work out our issues the two countries can rule the cricket world,” he said. “No matter the level of political relations in the past we have played cricket in very tense conditions and it has eventually helped the governments,” he added.
