VIDEO | Kevin Pietersen sends ball over Sharjah’ terrace with monstrous six
Despite the numerous controversies both on and off the field that have reduced Kevin Pietersen’s cricketing career significantly, one can’t deny his insane abilities with the bat. PSL saw one such instance, on Wednesday, when Pietersen send Faheem Ashraf’s delivery over Sharjah Stadium’s terrace.
There is something about Pietersen that still keeps viewers glued to the TV set whenever he is batting. Despite the controversies surrounding him and the numerous times that he had decided to retire from the game, there is some part of us still unwilling to let the entertainer leave the game anytime soon.
And the beast from Pietermaritzburg showed exactly why he is still a heartthrob of millions when it comes to hitting the ball out of the ground. The incident took place in the ninth game of the Pakistan Super League between Islamabad United (ISU) and Quetta Gladiators (QG) when QG were chasing an easy target of 135 in 20 overs.
Despite losing three wickets in the first six overs in Shane Watson, Umar Amin and Asad Shafiq, ISU had garnered 48 runs within them as Kevin Pietersen and Mohammad Nawaz were at the crease. And by the 10th over, Pietersen was well settled seeing the deliveries like a football as it was coming to his bat smooth and easy. And when Ashraf gifted him a good length ball just a little off in-front of his bat, the 6’4” batsman came down to have a clear rotation of the bat that saw the ball clearing the wide long-on fence and the stand of the Sharjah Stadium.
Though Pietersen fell short of 50 by just two runs, his side won the game by six wickets to go second in the PSL table.
