Dav Whatmore reckons that the absence of Steven Smith and David Warner, who are serving one-year bans, will be pivotal to India’s chances of claiming a win in the Test series in Australia. Whatmore also lavished praise on Virat Kohli's highly optimistic attitude which benefits the entire squad.

Former World Cup-winning coach, Dav Whatmore, submitted to the general view that is trending right now which points out that the loss of Steve Smith and David Warner will make things easy for India in their ongoing tour of Australia. Whatmore was confident that Virat Kohli & Co. have it in them to finally dominate the mighty Aussies in their own den.

"India have got a very good chance, particularly with Smith and Warner not around. I agree with one or two articles that I read on the subject which said that India can be victorious in Australia this time," Whatmore told reporters after Kerala’s nine-wicket win over Bengal," the Sri Lankan-born Australian, who is here as the coach of Kerala, told reporters after a nine-wicket win over Bengal at Eden Gardens.

However, one must remember that India was optimistic when they toured South Africa and England earlier this year. But yet ended up on the losing side despite all the hard work. Whatmore said that Kohli had it in him to guide his young team to a successful outing in Australia.

"Look, I won't be telling (head coach) Ravi Shastri or (captain) Kohli how to do the job. But maybe, they will be better prepared this time. The experience of the previous two overseas tours will certainly help. They will be feeling good. The Virat Kohli factor is very much there, he is the batsman around whom the team revolves. He is very positive and that rubs off," Whatmore added.
