Tamil Nadu has recalled experienced opener Murali Vijay and youngster Washington Sundar for the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy to bolster their chances for a place in the quarterfinals. Tamil Nadu are currently sitting fifth on the Elite Group C table and have only 3 games remaining.

Murali Vijay was dropped midway through the England tour and since then he has scored three half-centuries and a first-class century for Essex in the county cricket. However, that performance was not enough for him to make it to the team for the Test series against West Indies. On the other hand, Washington Sundar has not played since late June after suffering an ankle injury during training with the Indian team. His last competitive game was on May 1, an IPL match for RCB. After spending half of the tournament out of the team, TN have recalled them for the remainder of the tournament as a replacement for Hari Nishanth and Yo Mahesh.

Hari Nishanth, who was in the original squad, has not starred in a single game and Mahesh, who came into the squad as a replacement for K Vignesh, has been ruled out due to injury.

Tamil Nadu has won four out of the six league games they have played and with only three more matches remaining, they find themselves in a tough spot to make it to the quarterfinals.

The southern Indian team will face Tripura on October 3rd after which they will take on Jammu and Kashmir on October 7th. Their penultimate group game will be on October 9th against Haryana.
