It seems Umesh Yadav’s 10-wicket haul couldn’t have come at a better time as he is reaping instant rewards by replacing Shardul Thakur in the ODI squad against Windies. Thakur had to pull out of the series, that will start on October 21, at the last moment owing to a right adductor tendon injury.

India’s dominating win over Windies in the second Test had Umesh Yadav at the centre of it all with astonishing figures of 10/133. The pacer was applauded by both Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli following his feat and he now has gone on to capitilize on that in the upcoming five-match ODI series.

With Hardik Pandya already out of the series, India had included Mohammed Shami in the ODI side apart from the prioritized three of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shardul Thakur. Now, with Thakur out with an injury, the board has turned to Yadav.

“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Umesh Yadav as Shardul Thakur’s replacement in India’s squad for the first two ODIs against Windies. Mr Thakur suffered a right adductor tendon injury and has been ruled out of the Paytm ODI series,” a BCCI press release read.

Despite being a Test specialist of late, Yadav has already played in India’s England tour in the 2nd ODI, where he could get only one wicket giving away 63 runs. England had won the match by 86 runs.

Indian team for 1st & 2nd ODI against Windies: Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Ambati Rayudu, Manish Pandey, MS Dhoni (wicket-keeper), Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Khaleel Ahmed, Umesh Yadav
