After claiming her 300th wicket during the first one-dayer of the ongoing series against Sri Lanka at Galle, Jhulan Goswami has stated that she is not chasing milestones anymore. Last year, the former Indian skipper became the first bowler in international women’s cricket to go past 200 ODI wickets.

Indian pacer - Jhulan Goswami has reached yet another landmark in her distinguished career as she crossed the 300-wicket benchmark in the recent game against Sri Lanka at Galle. The 35-year-old reached the milestone, which made her the first woman to cross the 300-mark after getting Nipuni Hansika caught behind.

India went on to crush the hosts with ease as in-form opener Smriti Mandhana scored another blistering half-century against the Sri Lankans.

“I am not chasing milestones anymore. I didn’t even know about the 300. When I started, I just wanted to play one match for the country, and to get one wicket,” Goswami told Women’s CricZone.

Back in 2017,  the former India captain became the first bowler in women’s cricket to go past 200 ODI wickets. However, after an embarrassing outing against Bangladesh in the recently concluded Asia Cup, the seasoned cricketer announced her retirement from T20 cricket.

“T20 is a bit fast and I am slowing down day by day. I found that I was mixing T20 and ODI. The thinking wasn’t clear; the driving force I wanted wasn’t there. Us chakkar me, I wasn’t enjoying my bowling,” Goswami added.

Goswami has put some distance between her and second on the list, former Australia pace ace Cathryn Fitzpatrick, who has 240 wickets. While England all-rounder Jenny Gunn is climbing the ladder with 239 victims to her name.
