“Slog Sweep” master Fakhar Zaman chose the worst day to unleash his weapon and it proved to be nothing but an embarrassment. Attempting a slog-sweep against Kuldeep Yadav, Zaman ended up on the ground and despite hitting the ball, failed to take a review and conceded his wicket.

When orthodox cricket was the only way going forward and ODI cricket was not even in the scheme of things, there was a stroke conceived and copyrighted by Rohan Kanhai as his falling sweep and the falling hook wowed the audience like never before. And today, however accidentally, Fakhar Zaman turned the clock back to showcase one but ended up cursing his luck.

As a matter of fact, before Pakistan's match against Afghanistan on Friday, Zaman had never been dismissed playing the sweep or slog sweep in ODIs, but then since then both of his dismissals have come while playing the sweep. Today, Kuldeep bowled a very full ball to which Zaman wanted to sweep over mid-wicket, after having hit the same bowler for a six on the previous delivery.

However, this time around, the Pakistan opener landed his front foot to get closer to the pitch of the ball but ended up slipping. The ball went on to hit the pads and was given out by the umpire. Amidst all the confusion, Zaman consulted with his partner, Babar Azam, at the other end without wasting any time but the duo decided not to go for the review thinking that he had been caught plumb.

But, his story took a turn when the replays showed that the ball had been deflected off the gloves first, which meant a review would have saved him from getting dismissed. May well prove to be a costly miss for the Pakistanis!
