Chennai Super Kings pacer Deepak Chahar has stated that MS Dhoni was furious after he had bowled two consecutive deliveries above the waist height, in Saturday's match against Kings XI Punjab. However, he has also added that the CSK skipper congratulated him after he made a great comeback.

Chennai Super Kings had set a target of 160 for Kings XI Punjab in Saturday’s encounter. The Kings held their wickets but failed to score at a brisk rate and the equation came down to 39 required of the final two overs. MS Dhoni handed over the ball to Deepak Chahar, who started his over with a full toss above the waist height, and the umpire termed it as a no ball. He followed it up with the same in his next delivery, which was a free hit. The “Captain Cool” then lost his temper, walked up to the pacer, and was seen talking to him in an animated fashion.

Chahar opened about the incident, as he said, "Dhoni bhai was very angry with me. It was a big mistake that I made. He said a lot of things. Honestly, at the back of my mind, I was thinking what to bowl next,” reported TOI.

After the horrific deliveries, Chahar made a brilliant comeback and mixed it up with yorkers, full-length deliveries and slower ones. The batsmen failed to hit a boundary after the no ball, and the pacer ended up giving only 13 runs in total. Scott Kuggeleijn bowled a brilliant next over, and CSK eventually won the match. The elder Chahar sibling was delighted for having played a part in his team’s victory.

"After the match, every player of my team came and congratulated me. They said I bowled brilliantly at the death'," Chahar said.

"Dhoni bhai also came up to me. He smiled and hugged me. He said 'well done'. I know I bowled two bad deliveries, but I made an immediate comeback. He (Dhoni) also encouraged me and asked me to do well in the tournament. I was extremely happy that I contributed in my team's victory,” he added.

The Rajasthan pacer also explained as to how did he land two back to back no balls.

"I tried to bowl a slower one but the ball slipped out of my hand. I was hit for a boundary. I tried it again, but the same thing happened," stated the 26-year-old.

The pacer was dubbed as a promising aspect way back in 2008, at the age of 16. But his hopes went crashing when Greg Chappell, the then director of the Rajasthan Cricket Academy, had rejected him as a fast bowler. He then came back strong in domestic cricket but has been plagued with frequent injuries. Over the years, he has seen it all and has greatly matured as a cricketer.

"The more you think about the past, it will be difficult for you to make a comeback. Be it a comeback from injury, from a bad performance or a lean patch, you should know how to put yourself back on track. I don't think about the past. I believe in learning from the past and immediately moving on. And I always promise myself that I will not repeat the same mistake again," the right-hander asserted.

The pacer had put up an excellent performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2018, thereby, was picked up by the Stephen Fleming coached side for Rs.80 lakhs in the auctions. His side went on to win their third trophy, and even personally, the pacer had a good season, as he snapped up 10 wickets in 12 matches. Chahar recalled the memories of the victory and even went on to assure that the defending champions will retain their trophy.

"CSK won the title last year. I am proud that I was part of the winning team. This year we are playing really well. I am sure we will retain the title this year. I want to give my best for CSK and want to take as many wickets as I can. I want to be perfect in the death overs," he signed off.

The CSK will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders at Chennai tomorrow.
