It has been reported that Rohit Sharma has injured himself during Mumbai Indians’ practice session at the Wankhede stadium last evening. The seriousness of the injury is yet to be known, but it comes as a major scare for the Indian team before the World Cup, as Sharma is a vital cog in the team.

Rohit Sharma has been out of form off late, and was seen practising hard on his batting in the nets, post which he was working out in the field. But suddenly, the 31 year old was seen clutching his thigh and was excruciating in pain, reported Hindustan Times. Rohit succumbed to the ground, and Mumbai Indians physiotherapist Nitin Patel came rushing to the ground for his rescue.

Rohit, who is MI captain and the vice captain of the Indian team, was picked up by the physio, and he managed to make a slow walk to the dressing room. This comes as a huge concern for Mumbai Indians and the Indian team, which is due to play the World Cup starting May 30.

It is expected that the seriousness of the injury will be made public today, as the Mumbai based franchise will take on Kings XI Punjab. Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah, who is also from MI, sent an injury scare, and the franchise’s physio was immediately in touch with Indian team’s physio Patrick Farhart. Predictably, the same procedure may be followed now. This incident will once again ignite the discussions around workload management as the cash rich league ends just about two weeks before the premier ICC tournament

The Indian team for the quadrennial event is due to be picked on April 15. The second ranked team will play their first World Cup warm-up match against New Zealand on May 25, and their first fixture is scheduled on June 5, against South Africa.
