WI vs IND | Extremely disappointed with our performance, says Jason Holder

The Windies’ torrid time in the 50-over format of the game continued at Trinidad yesterday when they fell short by 59 runs to India. Even at the World Cup, the bowlers did reasonably well to keep the boys from the Caribbean in the hunt for as long as the match lasted and skipper Holder fully acknowledged this.

“Extremely disappointed. We had the game in our hand. We bowled well to come back in the end. The wickets in the end really cost us,” Holder said at the pre-match press conference, reported Cricbuzz.

At 226/3 in the 42nd over, India looked set to post at least 300 given that both batsmen at the crease – Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer – was well set. However, the hosts’ bowling unit, led by medium-pacer Carlos Brathwaite’s three-fer, picked up wickets regularly to limit the scoring to just 279. 

While chasing, they lost Chris Gayle and Shai Hope early. However, Evin Lewis, and every one of the middle-order batsmen got in and then got out at the wrong time. Holder called to attention that the batsmen need to own up to their task soon if they are to turn things around in the series.

“We've got to take responsibility. One of the main things is when you get in, you've got to go deep. I must commend the bowlers. It was very hot and humid, tough conditions to bowl. We've definitely got to take responsibility and ownership as batters,” Holder added.
