VIDEO | Ravindra Jadeja makes monumental judgemental error to give Chris Gayle easy life on his “final ODI”

It was as if the stars were aligning to give Christopher Henry Gayle a final showdown as the Indians erred their lengths from the very beginning to give him balls on the slot. If that was not enough, Ravindra Jadeja and Rohit Sharma made the mess of a catch judgement to give Gayle a life.

Chris Gayle depends on pure timing and once the ball is on slot, there can be only one shot - a wild swing of the bat from the giant of a man. As Port of Spain decked itself up for one final hurray to its star, Gayle entertained themselves with some shots that only he could play. While he gave his all for a 72, the lady luck was on his side as well.

On the fourth delivery of the 10th over, Khaleel Ahmed landed the delivery wide and outside the off-stump which was easy for the Jamaican to dislodge. However, the opener went too hard against it and ended up hitting it over point, failing to dispatch it over the fence. The catch was there to be taken and Jadeja was right on his money as far as the judgement is concerned.

However, while backtracking, Jadeja felt Rohit Sharma, who was manning the sweeper cover fence, would be the ideal person to take the catch and that propelled him to suddenly stop. The Indian vice-captain, however, tried his best but by the time he was covering the ground, the ball landed in front of him, giving Gayle an easy life.

Jadeja was a pure spectator there and had an embarrassing smile on his face. Looking at everything happening around him, Gayle was a picture of calm and with his swag, he looked around before taking the stance, probably in anticipation of hitting a six on the next ball.
