Under the leadership of Phil Simmons, Cricket Windies have appointed Monty Desai as their batting coach to help the team. Before bagging his role as the batting coach for the Windies side for the next two years, Desai served in a similar role at UAE in the ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers.

Former Indian batsman Monty Desai has been appointed as the batting coach for the West Indies team ahead of the team's tour of India this month. Desai, who’s on a two-year contract with the Windies side now, had previously served in similar roles at Canada, Afghanistan and UAE in different points of his life.

He served as Canada’s batting coach early in 2019, when he was on board with the national team for their World Cricket League Division 2 Qualifiers. Following his stint with the Canadian national team, he was appointed as Afghanistan’s batting coach ahead of their World Cup qualifiers and was successful in helping the Asian side qualify for the World Cup. However, recently the Indian was seen in a similar role with UAE for their T20 World Cup qualifiers.

"Let me first thank CWI for this incredible opportunity. I am very excited to join a team with such a rich history in the world cricket arena, one that I myself grew up admiring," Desai said on his appointment as per Cricbuzz.

His first assignment would be the away series against India, whom they clash starting from December 6 with the first T20I scheduled at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad. Alongside Monty were Roddy Estwick and Rayon Griffith who would be part of the coaching unit as bowling and fielding coach respectively.

"I am very much looking forward to being part of a journey where I can help to create a winning work environment, learn and embrace a new culture, and build a 'happy dressing room' tradition alongside other excellent leaders. I am eager to join forces with Head Coach Phil Simmons and Director of Cricket Jimmy Adams, and our captains, such that I may contribute in every possible way to the success of our team,” he concluded.
