IND vs WI | We knew where we faltered, work in progress now, reveals Kieron Pollard
West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard revealed that the team knew where they made the mistakes and that they will rectify them and take positives from the series. Pollard's innings of 68 from just 39 balls went futile as West Indies fell short by a 67-run margin and lost the T20I series 2-1 to India.
Batting first is not the strength of team India when it comes to T20Is and having asked them to bat first at Wankhede where dew later comes in and plays a big factor, Kieron Pollard and his men had the early advantage. But that advantage was soon gone as KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma displayed a batting masterclass, putting on an opening stand of 135 runs in just 11.4 overs which laid a foundation for Virat Kohli to continue the demolition as India posted a mammoth 240 on the board. Although West Indies possessed the might to chase down any target in T20Is, the injury to Evin Lewis dented their hopes and Pollard's heroics of 68 from just 39 balls was not enough as wickets kept on tumbling from the other end and West Indies fell short by 67 runs, thereby losing the series 2-1.
"We will look to take positives from this game. At the end of the day, we knew where we faltered and it's work in progress for us now," Pollard told in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Back in 2016 in the last edition of the T20 World Cup, West Indies had defeated India in the semifinals by chasing a target of 193 rather very easily and Pollard knew that even a score in excess of 200 was chasable on this track. But he accepted that he was unable to control the onslaught from the Indian openers and the Indians ended up getting way too much than the par score which in the end was the difference between the two teams.
"It was gettable, we have chased a big total in 2016 here. When you look at the way Rahul and Rohit went about at the start, they took their time and then exploded," Pollard asserted.
Even though the West Indies fell short considerably in the end, Pollard still was willing to take positives from the series and believes in the youth of the squad. He is looking forward to the ODI series now and believes that with proper experience playing against big teams like India in tough conditions will help the young players grow into potential world-class players who will contribute a lot to West Indies cricket.
"Yes, we are disappointed but we look to move on from here. There are a lot of emerging players coming through the ranks. Success is something you need to do day in and day out. Those are things we are working out. All is not lost, we still have 3 ODIs to play. We will look to stay positive," he asserted.
