Team India have officially named Shardul Thakur as replacement for the injured Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the upcoming ODIs against Windies. Bhuvneshwar, who returned to the side after an injury lay-off in the T20Is versus the Windies, suffered yet another setback, ruling him out of the ODI series.

Mumbai speedster Shardul Thakur has been named as the replacement for the injured Bhuvneshwar Kumar in India's ODI squad for the three-match ODI series against the West Indies that will commence from December 15th. Bhuvneshwar, who missed the T20Is against both South Africa and Bangladesh, returned to the side in the recently concluded three-match T20I series versus the Windies, but picked up yet another injury, subsequently ruling him out of the ODI series.

"Bhuvneshwar complained of pain in his right groin after the final T20I in Mumbai on Wednesday. He underwent an ultrasound scan conducted by a specialist and the BCCI medical team found that his sportsman’s hernia symptoms have resurfaced. A specialist opinion will now be sought, and his management plan will be decided accordingly," read an official release from the BCCI on Saturday.

Thakur has previously represented India in 5 ODIs, with the last of the five coming against Hong Kong in the Asia Cup on September 18, 2018. The 28-year-old has been a consistent performer in the domestic circuit and in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy, for his state side Mumbai, accounted for 10 scalps at an average just over 27.
