MSK Prasad, whose time as the chief selector of the Indian team will come to an end later this month, revealed that MS Dhoni is still in contention for the WT20 next year, and the former skipper has not yet announced his retirement. The statement comes after speculations about Dhoni's retirement.

India’s chief selector MSK Prasad, on Friday, revealed that MS Dhoni has not yet announced his retirement and is in contention for a spot in the squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia next year. Further, Prasad revealed that the selection committee members are big fans of the Dhoni when they are not on their official duty.

“The panel members, if we take away our professional responsibilities, are as big a fan of Dhoni as anyone. He has achieved everything under the sun, winning two World Cups, the Champions Trophy, No. 1 Test status,” Prasad told Sportstar.

Amidst talks of the Dhoni not being part of the plans for the T20 World Cup in Australia, with Rishabh Pant being the favourite to be in the playing XI, Prasad said that the selectors have Dhoni still in contention for the place.

“Mahi has not announced any retirement plans. The options are wide open and Mahi will take a call. But, nobody can question him about his career or contribution to Indian cricket,” added Prasad.

Prasad’s reign as the chief of selectors has been filled with controversies, with criticism over some decisions that Prasad has taken. However, criticism rarely affects him, as admitted by Prasad himself.

“It is all about winning the confidence of the team management by keeping an unbiased and open mind when coming up with names of players, backed by facts and figures,” he concluded.
