India vs New Zealand | Sanjay Bangar confirms MS Dhoni’s return to team for final ODI
Sanjay Bangar has confirmed that MS Dhoni will return to the team for the fifth and final ODI against New Zealand in Wellington. Dhoni had sustained a sore hamstring in the second game at the Bay Oval and for the same reason, he had to sit out of the team for the third and fourth game of the series.
MS Dhoni turned the tables in 2019 and after three back-to-back half-centuries in Australia, he played a 33-ball 48 in the second game against New Zealand. He looked in good touch and his keeping, as always, was impeccable. However, due to excessive running in those matches, he sustained a sore hamstring and had to sit out of the team for two consecutive ODIs.
However, ahead of the final ODI of the tour, Sanjay Bangar confirmed that MS Dhoni will make a comeback to the side and if that happens, he may well replace Shubman Gill who is not in the scheme of things for the World Cup. Dhoni’s absence was also a huge detriment for Kuldeep Yadav, who bowled red-ball lengths and was looked clueless about his line.
It will also be interesting to see how the former Indian skipper counters the swing of Westpac, which has traditionally been a pacer-friendly wicket.
