MSK Prasad has revealed that the BCCI selection committee will make a final decision on the inclusion of Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant in the ODI squad for the World Cup at the appropriate time. Karthik was excluded from the ODI squad to face Australia as Pant was brought back into the team.

The Indian cricket team will go up against the mighty Australians in two T20Is followed by a five-match ODI series on home soil. Indian chief selector MSK Prasad revealed the squads for the limited-overs series and One of the significant decisions that Prasad and the rest of the selection committee made was the exclusion of wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik from the team in favour of Rishabh Pant.

Several experts and former cricketers are convinced that Karthik will most likely not be onboard the plane for the World Cup. In response to the ongoing debate on who will make it to the final 15-man squad for the World Cup, Prasad said that a call will be taken at the appropriate time.

"It's definitely a healthy debate that's going on. We know Dinesh Karthik has been doing really well in the finisher's role. At the same time, Rishabh Pant's escalation has been very fast. He is showing a lot of maturity. Both of them are equally good but what is good for the team is going to help us take a call at the appropriate time," MSK Prasad said in an interview to Hotstar.

The Karnataka-born cricketer did not have an impressive outing in the ODI series against Australia and could manage 37 runs in three games. In two ODIs that he played against New Zealand, the wicket-keeper batsman scored 38 runs and followed it up with another 38 runs in three T20Is against the Kiwis.

In contrast, Pant had a better time against Australia in the Test series as he finished behind Cheteshwar Pujara as the second highest run-scorer for India. The Delhi-born youngster scored 72 runs in the three-match ODI series is given a spot in the limited-overs squad.
