IPL 2019 | Kolkata Knight Riders unaware of BCCI restriction on ‘player workload’
Kolkata Knight Riders CEO, Venky Mysore, has claimed that they have not been issued any warning concerning "players workload" from the BCCI so far. Earlier, BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary and MSK Prasad said that they would keep a close eye on core Indian players during this year’s IPL.
Kolkata Knight Riders will back themselves to perform well in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League after narrowly missing out on making the final in the last edition of the competition. The Shahrukh Khan co-owned franchise had already made some interesting buys in last season's mega auction with a clear aim to add some talented youngsters to the overall squad.
Punjab-born cricketer, Shubman Gill, who was picked up for a mammoth Rs. 1.8 crore was also drafted into the senior Indian cricket team in the series win against New Zealand earlier this month. The likes of Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivam Mavi were also roped in by the KKR backroom staff last year.
Earlier, BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary had said they will keep a close eye on the workload of Team India players during the IPL, as they want the core group of players to remain fresh for the ICC World Cup 2019 in May. however, KKR CEO Venky Mysore said they have not received any notification from the BCCI regarding the issue.
"It's a hypothetical situation, to be honest. I don't think it will arise because, having been around cricketers and coaches, they always feel that when you're playing competitive cricket it's better than having net sessions and what not.
"The way it plays out, the final is only two teams on May 12. Then in the playoffs... so it is not like everyone involved in the tournament is going to be... depends on which teams make it and all that... I think its all going to work out well," Mysore said, reported PTI.
The ICC ODI World Cup is scheduled to be played across England and Wales from May 30 to July 14. It will be preceded by the 12th edition of the IPL which will start on March 23. This puts the BCCI in a tough position to make sure that the core group of World Cup probables are fit enough for the international showpiece later on.
"We have not heard any such thing from them. The tournament is finishing early enough. If May 12 is the final, and India plays its first game on June 5, I think there is enough of a gap but we have not had any such guidance or instruction," Mysore added.
